ENTRY 2 (Sunday)
This island has always been known as a “thin place” where the worlds of spirit and matter don’t seem so far apart. This quality is what has attracted people to Iona for hundreds of centuries. This was considered a mystical place even before St. Colomba arrived. Even though the island is one mile wide and three miles long, there are a surprising number of people who visit. We have met (and keep meeting) several of them. The island now is very eco-friendly and responsible toward the environment; the St. Columba hotel has its own organic gardens and meals are supplied from those gardens and from the local fish and livestock. The island is recognized as a fair-trade area and the Iona Community, located in the Abbey and begun in 1938, is very socially conscious, promoting the cause of peace and justice in the world. Elaine
